So, this is really cool! Toyota started their “Farm to Table Tour” back in 2009 with the idea that local Farmer’s Market’s, much like our Pepper Place Summer Market, are extremely valuable to the community. The Farm to Table Tour travels to farmers markets around the country to showcase the connection between chefs and the farmers that produce and sell locally grown ingredients – while at the same time showcasing Toyota’s Hybrid vehicles.
This year the tour is coming to Birmingham and making at stop at this Saturday’s (July 24th) Market.
At each stop on the tour, up to 12 of the area’s top chefs and farmers will be paired together to highlight the best of each market’s fresh offerings. The chefs will prepare bite‐sized tastings for visitors to sample that highlight their partner farm’s ingredients while guests will have the opportunity to learn more about each market, the specialty farmers, the notable chefs, and ways to eat and shop more locally.
The following chefs have been selected from the Birmingham area:
- Kimberly Brock of Bitty’s Back Porch
- Jared Danks of Culinard Culinary Institute
- Chris Hastings of Hot and Hot Fish Club
- Clif Holt of Little Savannah Restaurant & Bar
- Clayton Sherrod of Chef Clayton’s Catering
- Chris Zapalowski of The Homewood Gourmet
- Guillermo Castro of Cantina
- Jean Evens Estinfort & Serge Pambo of Café de Paris
Along with the culinary awesomeness of the day, you’ll have the chance to sample potted culinary herbs from the Highlander Hybrid Mobile Garden as well as enter for a chance to win a culinary trip to Santa Barbara for a special cooking and farmers market tour. Exciting!
Make sure you come out this Saturday to the Market, it’s going to be one to remember!
